Victim Surveys! by Amy Kennett

Victim surveys are often longitudinal study that aims to represent the population[1]. Victim surveys are official statistics that provide information for the whole country and local areas. They aim to see who has been a victim and which crimes are being committed. The first crime survey was in 1981 by the Home Office to overcome the difficulties and limitations when conducting annual crime surveys, such as seeing which crimes have not been reported[2].

There are two types of surveys: National Surveys and Area or Neighbourhood Surveys. National surveys look at information collected across the whole country, such as the British Crime Survey[3]. Area surveys are used for specific areas to get a more detailed study of the same issues used in the national survey[4].
