Victim Surveys – Emma Hodder


The British Crime Survey (BCS) is a survey which represents the national area of England and Wales with approximately over 47,000 adults living within private households. This annual survey first in 1981 and has been running ever since.

The survey is face to face or via phone using the CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) and within this they are are as series of questions about their experiences in crime over the last 12 months.

The surveys are generally held within in the capital or fairly big cities within participating countries.

This is an example of how the overall data can be laid out, once all participants have been surveyed.



However, there are many strengths and weaknesses which can counterbalance with the overall outcome of this type of survey.
